Why I Started Blogging

April 21, 2016

I have always really enjoyed writing. My love for writing began at the age of five. It may sound a little young but my preschool teachers would encourage us to write poems. I enjoyed writing poems more than playing with toys. The teachers also made it fun! This was before we had to learn all the grammar rules and formatting requirements. Not a lot of thought went into these poems but they did come from my five year old heart and imagination.

Fast forward to High School and College and I began to not like writing as much. I hated all the different formats and citing different sources. It kind of took the fun out of writing for me. It seemed that the teachers cared more about the format than the content of the actual paper. I started keeping journals as a place for me to get my thoughts out and write with no rules! I go back and read them from time to time and they are actually pretty funny and entertaining.

I am taking a little break from college and doing some soul searching. I am trying to figure out what I really want to do with my life. I have changed my mind so many times! I stopped going to school in December and became a little bored. I decided to start blogging as a healthy way for me to spend my time. I also love blogging because I can pick what I want to write about and don’t have to use a certain format. I can pretty much write things however I want. Writing is finally fun again!

I decided to focus my blog to fashion, beauty, lifestyle and healthy living. These are all the things I am passionate about. I love how broad they are as well. I didn’t want something too specific because then I would have to limit my content.

One of the toughest things about launching my blog was making the decision to put myself out there. There is so much negativity out there these days. Its crazy how I can obsess over one negative comment over 100 compliments. I think my brother is my first “hater”. He likes to call me and say “What was up with the shoes you were wearing? They were so ugly!” I guess that is what big brothers are for!

Thank you to everyone who continues to follow & read my blog! Your support means the world to me. I hope everyone has a wonderful week!

    I love your blouse Catherine!
My journey with writing was similar to yours – It’s been really hard to find joy in writing when so much of the writing I do is for a grade. I also journal (and blog) as a way to keep writing fun for me. I graduate in a month and I can’t wait to write ONLY for my own projects!

Sounds like a very good reason to start blogging. That’s sort of why I started blogging, to work out what I love and to see what I want to do with myself! Such a cool post. Can’t wait to try some of them out ! xx
